What is PREM?

PREM CIMA

 

The NSF Partnership for Research and Education in Materials (PREM) Center for Intelligent Materials Assembly (CIMA) works to strengthen the pipeline of students in materials science and STEM careers through research and education.

Become a PREM CIMA Associate or Researcher

Undergraduate and graduate students interested in joining PREM as Associates or Researchers are encouraged to read our highlights page. PREM Associates participate in student meetings where they gain professional development and are exposed to materials research, with the hope of becoming a hands-on researcher in the near future. Students are also encouraged to browse faculty pages to learn more about their research interests.

    • CDCM MRSEC is hosting a science communication workshop on Wednesday, 10/23, led by science communication specialist, Colin Rowan (https://www.rowcom.com/about/). Colin is a UT alum and a seasoned communication expert with over 20 years experience in this field. During this workshop, which is part 1 of a two part series, he will dive into how to communication your science in a more effective, impactful and engaging way through oral presentations and communication with various types of audiences. Part 2 of this workshop series will focus on scientific writing with a purpose and will be hosted on November 14, from 12-1:15 pm CST/ 11-12:15pm MST.

      PREM CIMA students are invited to attend as well via Zoom (see calendar invite).

    • We’re excited to host PREM Day at Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos on Saturday, November 16, from 9 am - 1 pm, where we’ll engage local youth in fun, hands-on Physics demos. This is an excellent way to inspire the next generation of young, curious minds and get students excited about science applications and concepts! 
       
      Dr. Mark Wistey, Associate Professor of Physics and PREM Thrust 2 Co-Director, will be leading this outreach event, and we need volunteers like YOU to make it happen. 
       
      Physics students, this is a great opportunity to share your passion and apply what you’ve learned to inspire the youth in the San Marcos Community! We HIGHLY encourage you to volunteer.

      The Honors College and the IDEA Center are pleased to present the 2024 Fall Undergraduate Research Conference (URC) on Friday, November 22, 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., in THH 305, 308, and 310.

      Honors College Capstone and Bobcat IDEA research projects will be showcased in student panel sessions led by faculty moderators across diverse disciplines.

      All are welcome to attend.
